Traveling took me closer to an interesting realm of Dogs in California

Thanks to Adobe and now Sumologic that I have been able to travel to Bay Area in USA. During these short trips, I make it a point to meet friends in California. During my every visit to Bay area, I met Arun (my college friend) who lives in Fremont and he has an awesome dog - Woz. Woz is very friendly and intelligent, and has been living with Arun & Shivani for more than 2 years now. This time I got to spend some good time with Woz. I spent two weekends with this family of three and that’s when I visited this dog park in Fremont. Thus far I had only heard about dog parks; this was the first time when I was experiencing all that happens in these parks.

Living in India and then getting to know about Dog parks was certainly a special experience for me. Probably it would not be that special experience for dog lovers who might already know about these dog parks. Although I am not sure if there are any Dog parks in Delhi or in other main cities of India.

It was very interesting to know that all the pet dogs in California undergo a training program where they are taught some lessons about understanding what others are trying to say/communicate. After these courses, dogs get certificates. This kind of certificate is important to get entry into these dog parks. Apart from this, regular health checkup certificates and appropriate vaccination is critical. Some of these certificates are valid for a particular time frame and then these dogs need to get renewal. The idea is to keep the dogs healthy and ensure that there is no risk to the people around them as well. Apart from knowing these facts at a generic level, I observed many of these dogs in the park and was impressed with the way the owners were taking care of them. And the kind of bonding they share.

I have hardly seen them barking. Exceptions are a few barks in the park when these dogs mingle with each other and play. Some of them are big-time attention seekers, while others don’t care much when they are having fun.

Such dog parks are built in all localities of California and probably other states of USA. But I heard that things are more systematic in California in comparison to other states. Woz visits this park twice a day - morning & evening. I accompanied him for some of these visits and that certainly opened up a whole new world to me, which is very different from what I had always assumed or known.

If you liked this post and found it helpful, I would request you to follow these things when traveling -

1. Manage your waste well and don’t litter Use dustbins.
2. Tell us if you went to a place and found it hard to locate a dustbin.

3. Avoid bottle waters in hills. Usually you get clean water in hills and water bottles create lot of mess in our ecosystem.

4. Say big no to plastic and avoid those unhealthy snacks packed in plastic bags. Rather buy fruits.

5. Don't play loud blaring music in forests of jungle camps. You are a guest in that ecosystem and disturbing the locals (humans and animals) is not polite
