How to reach Siem Reap from Phnom Penh, Places to explore - Cambodia Pre-planning

As we are gearing up for Cambodia and we have started looking at the details for planning. And from past, I have realized that pre-planing of a trip teaches you a lot and if you have an account of planning you did, you can compare it with actual exploration and see where your plan worked & what needed more attention. We are in Cambodia for 8 days. As of now, we are planning to go to Seam Reap on 3rd day morning and intend to spend spend 3 nights in the city. Most likely we will be going from Phnom Penh. So I checked different ways to commute from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. After reading above link, it seemed like Buses are quite comfortable but we may opt for a Taxi which can comfortably acommodate 5 of us along with out luggage. (?) Can we stop at Sambor Preikuk while going from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap? - This is something I need to figure out but it seems if we opt for Taxi, we can certainly plan it. So this one majorly depends how we commute from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. Now that I know that we have approximately 2.5 days to spend in the city, I have started looking into main places to see in Cambodia. This search lead me to this link which shares reasonable details. Broadly talking, there are following main things to do or places to explore in Siem Reap city of Cambodia in SouthEast Asia. Here is what we decided as our priority list - Day-1 (When we reach Siem Reap) 1. Party in Pub Street 2. Shopping in Night Market of Siem Reap Day-2 (Mainly for Angkor Wat Archeological Park) 1. Temple hopping around Angkor Wat (Bayon, Ta Phrom & Baphuon) - $37 ticket for one day 2. Angkor Thom 3. Banteay Srie Day-3 1. Floating Village 2. Angkor National Museum (Entry ticket - $20) 3. Landmine Museum & School (Entry Ticket - $5) 4. Beng Mealea ($5 per person) And if you notice plan, we will only be buying one day ticket which costs $37. There are 2 other options - 3 days ticket and week long pass. Since we don't have much time there, we will manage with 1 day pass & explore other things around Siem Reap. Above list can be a little aggressive, so we may not go to all the priority list would remain the same. Here is very interesting blog which shares some useful insights about Siem Reap. Like tips to plan sunrise visit to Angkor Wat and for that you need to buy the ticket a day before.

After reading above link, it seemed like Buses are quite comfortable but we may opt for a Taxi which can comfortably accommodate 5 of us along with out luggage. Bus usually costs $15 per person and a taxi would be around $100. Since we are 5 of us, we can certainly consider booking a taxi and have our trip the way we want it.

Comments

Now that I am back from Cambodia, let me share how we planned our commute and what are the places we explored or things we did at Siem Reap.

1. We booked van from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap as we were 5 & 2 of the members were joining us at the airport. This costed us $120 but usually it's cost is $90 or $100. $25 were extra charges for airport pickup on the way.
2. While coming back, we opted Mekong Express bus which costed us $13 per person. I would have preferred proper Volvo buses with reclining seats at $15. So if you have time, book Grand Ibis for $15. I highly recommend, although I haven't sat inside the bus.
3. At Angkor Wat we took one day ticket and booked a Tuk-Tuk for whole day which costed us $15.
4. On second day, we only did Floating village and sunset from the boat in second half. During first half we walked around the city.
5. We couldn't plan any visit to the Museusms.
6. We visited Night Market every night & also the Pub Street.
7. Vibha, her sister and Nishant loved shopping.
8. Certainly we clicked lot of photographs/videos which can be checked at - https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/travellingcameraincambodia/

I am sure I am missing things which should be shared here. But we will share detailed posts soon on the blog.

Overall Siem Reap visit was best in our Cambodia Trip. More posts to follow about Siem Reap & Phnom Penh
